"Skater Girl" forthcoming from Guernica Editions in spring, 2024

I am excited to announce that my essay collection, Skater Girl: An Archeology of the Self, has been accepted for publication by Guernica Editions.

Guernica Editions is a well respected and long established Canadian literary publisher and I am proud to join their list of excellent authors. Visit www.guernicaeditions.com

Some essays are memoir pieces, some reflections. Some are sad; some funny; all are honest and intensely personal. The order is somewhat chronological, but the book is a pastiche, an assemblage, with essays refracting and reflecting one another. Themes of social justice, art, spirituality, grief and loss are threaded through memories of growing up in the 1950s in Vancouver; my "so-called" mental illnesses; my adventures as a child criminal; how I became a "Christian"; how I didn't become a Maoist; why Mark Rothko's paintings make me cry; my mother's near fatal stroke, and my capitalist father's sexual harassment of his female employees. .
